Lit Pup Magazine is the companion magazine to Lit Shark Magazine and is specifically BY and FOR children and teen writers.

We accept work from those under 18 years old, and we also accept work from children’s book, middle-grade, and YA authors who are creating work that is appropriate for younger audiences.

Lit Pup Magazine’s Submission Schedule

Issue 1 Submissions Due: October 15th, 2024

Issue 2 Submissions Due: December 15th, 2024

Issue 3 Submissions Due: February 15th, 2025

Issue 4 Submissions Due: April 15th, 2025

Lit Pup’s 2024-2025 Anthology will appear in paperback in June 2025.

We will publish mini-issues throughout the academic year as free PDFs, and at the end of the school year, right before we go on summer break, we will release a paperback anthology of Lit Pup Magazine, including all of the year’s mini-issues, plus new content. Each issue will include poetry, stories, coloring pages, and activities that get us outside (the coloring pages and activities will be offered with a child’s version and a teen’s version to make it fun and useful for everyone!).

Children & Teen Writer Submissions: 

This magazine is specifically made for you, so don’t be shy! Share your best work, your silliest work, your most beautiful and brilliant work! We want to see it all.

Poetry: Up to 5 poems or 10 pages

Fiction, Short Nonfiction, and Novel Excerpts: Up to 15 pages or 4500 words

Artwork: Can be with or without text, and we’d also love to see some art that centers around sharks and marine life (though that isn’t required)! Up to 10 images at a time.

 

To submit, please email publishing@litshark.com 

The subject line of your email should be “Kids Lit Pup Submission” or “Teen Lit Pup Submission,” depending on your age. The body of your email should include your name, contact info, and your author bio (just whatever makes you YOU!).

Your attached document should not include your name or other identifying information, so we can ensure a fair, unbiased reading of your work and artwork.

Written works (poetry, fiction, etc.) should be attached as PDFs or Word docs, and artwork can be attached in other forms as needed.

***Also, since Lit Pup is for writers and artists under the age of 18, please submit your work with your parent or guardian’s assistance.

We’re now accepting works from authors and poets in these genres to allow Lit Pup Magazine to be BY and FOR younger audiences. Per the publishing community’s discourse surrounding middle-grade and YA content, please make sure your work is appropriate for young readers before submitting.
