Thank you for your interest in writing for Lit Shark!
We are actively seeking one-time pitches as well as regularly contributing writers for book reviews as well as thoughtful, in-depth essays on sustainability, green living, conservation, marine life, and restoration.
Seeking: Regular Contributing Writers and Book Reviewers
Writers who love writing about the book industry, writing in-depth book reviews, and conducting author interviews, we need you!
Writers who enjoy writing about marine conservation (sharks, coral reef, pollution, etc.), we’re looking at you, too!
Writers/educators who would like to submit writing prompts, writing exercises, and other lessons that are centered around creative writing, reading more deeply, conservation, green living, sustainability, marine animals… you get the idea, we’d love to hear from you, too!
Finally, if you have some other fun idea that you’d like to pitch us—reaction videos for your first year watching Shark Week, your favorite shark-themed films ranked, book-themed listicles, etc.—we’re open to seeing content outside of news, reviews, interviews, and teaching materials.
We also welcome our creative writers to submit all over the site. So if you’re worried you won’t be able to submit to Lit Shark because you’ve contributed work to one of our magazine issues, that’s not true. We read all of our submissions without identifying information, so our selection goes on quality, not on connections. You’re welcome to submit anytime.
And of course, if you’ve sent work to us before and it wasn’t selected, you’re welcome to pitch to us again! We likely already had too similar of a piece in our cue or were overrun with quality content at the time. We’d love to hear from you again.
Send us an email with your interests, the subjects you wish to cover, and up to 3 article ideas to publishing@litshark.com to get started!
Future Compensation:
Unfortunately at this time, we are not compensating our writers, but they will always receive a byline, photo, bio, and social media links on our site. And being able to pay our freelance writers, creative writers, and artists is our first priority, so once we have enough income coming in, that’s the first place we’ll be investing. Artists and writers deserve compensation, period.
